| To the SU Tennis Club Team:
If you have receieved this email then yes you have made the team and survived tryouts. Congratulations and thanks for coming out to play and show me your talent which I saw and decided to keep. Jenny and I had to make quite a bit of cuts considering how many players showed up. There were a total of 40 players who made the team, 20 guys and 20 girls. You guys showed us not only great skill on the court but had great attitudes as well. Some of you were on the team last year and that was taken into consideration as well. Those of you who showed up on Saturday when it was raining also got some bonus points. For the most part, we have a really solid team and can do quite well this year. Down to business. Beginning this Sunday night, we will have our first practice at Drumlins Tennis Center from 830pm to 1000pm. The second practice will be on Tuesday night at 900pm to 1030pm. You must come to one of the practice dates to be considered part of the team. Coming to both is great if you can, but I know that you guys are very busy. If you need rides to get there, let me know and Jenny and I can fill our cars. For those of you who do not know how to find Drumlins, it is going to be like you are going to South Campus, but instead of turing towards the gates, you go past the main light at that intersection. You will continue down that same road, Calvin street, then when you reach the second light after the intersection you will make a right, there will be a grocery store at that right corner. Then you will make you first right on that road and turn into the tennis center down a ways from the turn. Park there and enter the doors to the courts. During the first two practices, dues will be collected. They went down a bit from when I announced them at tryouts, but are a bit more than last year. They will be 20 dollars a semester. If you do not pay or show up during the first two practices, we will assume that you are no longer interested in the team, but I hope that is not the case, because you guys are such great athletes and it would be great to have you during the year. So practices will continue during the year will breaks for holidays, but will be every Sunday night and Tuesday night during the weeks. Just need to attend one of the practices remember. For matches, our first team match will be against SUNY Geneseo on october 1st in the morning. More details will happen during the first practices this coming weekend and next week. T-shirts and any other team equipement will be discussed as well. Practices will be structured. There will be drill courts then match time. This will help create ladder type situations, if you have played High School then that may be familiar. The drill courts will be run by you guys, so everyone will participate. There will be warm-ups and stretching creating an actual team setting. I hope to gain support with this set-up as the year progresses. If you have any more questions between this date and this coming Sunday night at 830pm, be on time please, then you can email me at spsjogre@syr.edu or send me an IM at SiDog91884. Congratulations again on making the team and see you either this Sunday night at 830pm or Tuesday night at 9pm sharp. The best, Simon Sjogren, Men's and Women's Team Captain Jenny Rodenhouse, Women's Team Captain |
